OverviewKiantone is a town on the southern edge of Chautauqua County, bordered to the north by the city of Jamestown and the town of Ellicott, to the east by Carroll, to the south by Pennsylvania (towns of Pine Grove and Farmington, both in Warren County), and to the west by Busti. Kiantone has two hamlets but no village. Conewango Creek forms the eastern border of the town. For a while, Kiantone was known as a mill town, but farming now is the main industry. Along with its abundance of wide-open space, Kiantone’s appeal is its proximity to Jamestown, the biggest municipality in Chautauqua County. Local Museums & Landmarks
Kiantone has no historical sites or landmarks to speak of, but there are several nearby. About 6 miles northeast is the Town of Carroll Historical Society. In the nearby hamlet of Frewsburg is the Martz Observatory, an astronomy center. The majority of sites to see around here can be found in Jamestown (about 6 miles north of Kiantone), whose numerous attractions include the Lucy-Desi Museum (dedicated to native daughter/comedy legend Lucille Ball), the Lucille M. Wright Air Museum (which includes a planetarium), the Fenton History Center, the Robert H. Jackson Center, and the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame. To the west in Busti is the Busti Mill, a 19th-century grist mill that operated until the mid-20th century and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. |
